Matías Valentin Catrileo Quezada, agronomy student of the "Universidad de la Frontera," was shot down this mourning by a cowardly bullet from a Special Forces officer of the National Police Force [GOPE] (apparently in the lung, according to the news distributed by Radio Bio Bio), while reclaiming the Santa Margarita landed estate together with 30 other Mapuche youth, legal property of ranch owner Jorge Luchsinger.

That today, Sunday December 30, 2007, I end my part in the hunger strike that we initiated on October 10 of this year, leaving death as my only other alternative. This Wednesday, November 15, Mapuche Lonko Juana Calfunao, was arrested along with her children and part of her "Juan Paillalef" Community, while exiting the court in Temuco.

El día martes 17 de octubre fue trasladado a Santiago, a la Cárcel de Alta Seguridad, el comunero mapuche Waikilaf Cadin Calfunao, hijo de la lonko de la Comunidad Juan Paillalef, Juana Calfunao. Cadin se encontraba en el Penal de Temuco desde el 16 de agosto de este año, imputado por los delitos de secuestro, hurto y Maltrato de Obra a Carabineros. Cadin fue detenido en el marco de las protestas que realizaba su comunidad en contra la expropiación de sus tierras y contra la tala de árboles que realizaba la empresa eléctrica FRONTEL en sus territorios.

The Real "Fachelet" Agenda

The candidacy that won the last Chilean presidential election promised to fulfill 36 measures in its first hundred days. Clearly this methodology sought to imitate the first 40 measures of Salvador Allende's agenda in 1970. The difference being that those 40 measures were focused on creating a very different Chile, whereas those of Bachelet do not affect the vast social inequality nor that of economic dependency. They are in fact, acts of charity, covered as small superficial social changes. Those 36 measures are covered in the president's speech, whom likes to elaborate her ideas before the presence of day care centres. Less we forget that she once wanted to be a pediatrician, despite being diverted towards martial arts.* In any case, she did not manage to comply with two thirds of the 36 measures she promised during the hundred day period.
