The Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat is urgently calling on all supporters of the Palestinian people, and all supporters of justice and freedom, to organize and act in solidarity with Ahmad Sa'adat, the imprisoned Palestinian national leader on or before December 25, 2008. Sa'adat, the General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and an elected member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, has been imprisoned in Israeli jails alongside 11,000 of his Palestinian brothers and sisters since March 14, 2006, when he was abducted by Israeli occupation forces, following the siege on Jericho Prison on March 13, 2006, in which Sa'adat and five other Palestinian political prisoners were abducted by the Israeli occupation military.

Palestinian Legislative Council member and General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Ahmad Sa’adat, refused to recognize the legitimacy of an illegal hearing in Ofer Military Court on 28 March 2006. Sa’adat was kidnapped along with five other Palestinians following an Israeli siege of Jericho Prison on 14 March. As he was led shackled to the court room, Sa’adat raised his fists in the air and declared that he is a fighter against the Israeli occupation. His legal team asked for his release on the grounds that the court is illegitimate and that the trial is politically motivated.

Threats of near-death torture preceded the abduction operation yesterday - A committee of Palestinian, Arab, and International lawyers is being formed to follow up the Jericho Six

Ramallah – Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association expresses its deep concern over life and destiny of the six Jericho detainees, including the recently elected legislator Ahmad Sa’dat, who where abducted yesterday; and demands immediate access to them by their lawyers and families to assure their well being. Addameer, also, demands that ICRC and it’s delegates immediately take their responsibility to guarantee that none of them is subject to any form of torture or inhuman or degrading treatment. Addameer demands, as well, that International bodies, including UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, OMCT, UNCHR, UNHCHR, UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary, or Arbitrary Executions, and Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, High Contracting Parties to Fourth Geneva Convention, and General Consuls in Jerusalem, to take on and fulfill their legal responsibilities in guaranteeing life and safety of the abductees and to guarantee that none is subject to torture or inhuman or degrading treatment.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Condemns the Arrest of Its General Secretary and Calls on All to Shoulder Their Responsibilities

Ramallah: The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine condemns all those who directly or indirectly caused the criminal arrest of its General Secretary, his comrades, Brother Fu'ad ash-Shawbaki, and numerous other militants of various patriotic and Islamic forces who were subject to arbitrary political imprisonment based on American-Zionist dictates. The PFLP declares that the invader forces committed the crime of that arrest, as well as the attack on the Jericho prison and the destruction of the Muqata'ah building inside, with the complicity of America and Britain, as the officials of the Palestine Authority -- their minds controlled by the fear of the Israeli response to anything that they might do -- trembled and wavered. This followed the naïve faith they had put in agreements, even those under the protection of America and other such countries. Ehud Olmert, meanwhile, sought at this moment to prove to the Israelis that he is the spitting image of Sharon so that he and his party might gain politically and in the coming elections.
